Boston — The Healey-Driscoll Administration today announced new statewide guidance reminding schools that creating a “deepfake” AI-generated nude image of a minor is a criminal offense that must be promptly investigated. Deepfakes are an increasing problem in schools and causing serious harm to students across the state and the country.
Deepfakes – images, videos, or audio generated or manipulated with AI and designed to look real – are increasingly being used to produce sexualised content involving children, including through so-called “nudification”, where AI tools are used to strip or alter clothing in photos to create fabricated nude or sexualised images.
The term deep nudes (AI deep nude, AI fake nude, deepfake pornography, etc.) is a term for sexually explicit (often pornographic) realistic photographs/images of people that have been created using AI tools. These tools can remove clothing from photographs or videos of people, generate a nude human body and create a realistic illusion of nudity.
