The Duncan Store The City of Duncan is named after Scotsman William Duncan. He came to Oklahoma around 1870, where he met then married a Chickasaw woman. He started a store called the "Duncan Store" near Cow Creek. His store was one of the key trade centers for travelers to Ft. Sill and along the Chisholm Trail.

In 2019, City of Duncan’s Department of Emergency Management began address corrections to comply with Next Generation 911 (NG911) standards. We are now partnered with True North Mapping and Solutions of Ada, Oklahoma to correct concerns related to those address changes.
