Important: If you want to increase your chances of recovering a file, minimize or avoid using your computer. In the Windows file system, the space used by a deleted file is marked as free space, which means the file data can still exist and be recovered. But any use of your computer can create files, which may over-write this free space at any time.

Notes from the service behavior: For a personal OneDrive account, items in the recycle bin are automatically deleted 30 days after deletion. Files deleted from Personal Vault appear in the recycle bin only if Personal Vault is unlocked; in the recycle bin, use Show Personal Vault items to see and restore them.

A deleted folder (with its subfolders) can be recovered only if it is still visible under Deleted Items; it can then be dragged back to the desired location. A folder that has been permanently deleted (no longer in Deleted Items) cannot be recovered as a folder. Only the messages can be recovered via the Recoverable Items view as above.
