036 has no decomp, is a few tenths of a pound lighter (mine is 12.1 pounds), makes 4.6 hp vs 036 pro at 4.4 hp, has the older style floc filter. Both have adjustable oilers. 036 isa good runner. I still have mine, bought new in '91 and it runs like a top.
The 036 was made from 1991-2001. In 2002 they changed its name to the MS360, and that was made from 2002-2005. With a couple of changes, it became the MS361 and ran from 2005-2010. To find the date your saw was made, look on the rear handle for a silver sticker. This has information about the saw. Look for MD and then 4 digits. This will read YYMM. On the newer equipment it will read MM.YY ...
036 is buzzy after running spring-loaded saws but they're indestructible workhorse type, three extra holes drilled in the muffler adds more kick, 18" bar is best balance agility and weight, unless you're forced to cut thru 20" logs all the time with only 60cc, the 20" bar better suits the 044.
